Jaguar F-Type

Jaguar F-Type

With striking sheetmetal, an elegant interior and sporting abilities good enough to keep up with the best of them, the F-Type is a hit. It does, however, face some stiff compition. The new Corvette Stingray (the one that won most “Car of the Year” awards this year) is faster than the V8S, while costing about half as much. Continue reading

Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Edition

Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Edition

After an incredible 50 years, the 911 is still one of the benchmark sports cars. Porsche made a special edition to celebrate its fabulous car. Unlike most special editions, this one is more than a new paint job (we are looking at you, Buggati). Porsche used the RWD Carrera S drivetrain and powertrain in the wider Carrera 4 body. Mercedes SL-Class

20121105-194755.jpg

One of the most well-rounded cars you can buy for 100k. It is both a luxury car and a GT car, it is a hardtop and a convertible, and it mixes speed with comfort. The Mercedes SL was recently updated with the model shown in the picture (2013 SL550). The SL is not a sports car by any means, but that is not what it is supposed to be. It is a true luxury GT. The cabin has both a gorgeous design, and is crafted from the finest materials. It is offered in the US as the SL550, SL63 AMG, SL600 and the SL65 AMG. The base SL is relatively quick, but the AMG models take it to a whole different level, especially the SL65. The SL65 AMG features a bi-turbo 6.0 liter V12 (bi-turbo is usually used as a synonym of twin-turbo, but that is not always the case). This V12 makes a thunderous 630hp. This is far more than a 458 or 997 Turbo, and will certainly get the car moving in a hurry. The SL65 AMG is still not a sports car though, it is a much more powerful and modified SL (think S550 vs S65 AMG). For the 100k luxury two-door market, this and the Granturismo barely edge out the M6, with the SL beating it in luxury and tech, while the Granturismo beats it in sportiness and engine sound.

Corvette ZR1

Corvette ZR1

The ultimate offering from Chevy. 638 horses, over 200 miles per hour. Sounds good, but not good enough. Sure, it is (very) fast around a track, but so is a GT-R and the SRT Viper. Both the Viper and the GT-R have much better interiors and also have look much more exotic. If it did not look like just a more aggressive base C6, then I would love it. It also has a interior that is bested by a most 25k cars. It exceeds expectations with speed and power, but the interior and exterior just don’t cut it.

Porsche 911

Ahhh…one of my favorites. This is a comparison picture of the 991 and 997. Yes, they look very similar, there is no getting around that. I have heard many people say that all Porsches look the same. First of all, they had better be talking about only the 911, because if they cannot tell the difference between a Boxster and a Cayenne, then there is something wrong. But even with the 997 and 991, there are plenty of differences, and if you say they look the SAME, then you either do not know anything about cars, or are just lying. Personally, I think that it is very easy to tell between a 997 4S and a 997 S, let alone a Turbo and Carrera…maybe it is just me though
