The Kia Optima is a good all-around pick. It offers the most upscale look among the midsize sedans available. Starting at $21k, it is also one of the most sporty looking sedans for the money. For $21k, you get a 200hp four-cylinder sending power to the front wheels. Bump it up to $23k, and you get the same engine but some more tech and other goodies. Where it really gets better is at $26k, where you get a turbo 4-cylinder producing a respectable 274hp. With the turbocharged model (called the SX), you get some different (and rather good looking) wheels, and even more standard equipment. Handling is good, better than the Camry, but not quite up to the Mazda6’s. Fuel economy is about average for its segment. The Optima is for people looking for a car that is slightly sporty, but still a traditional mid-size sedan.
